USS Missouri - Pearl Harbor, Hawaii
The USS Missouri is a big boat. An Iowa-class battleship, actually. Put into service in June 1944, it took about 3 years to build. The 887 foot-long ship was active in three wars. World War II, Korean War, and the 1991 Gulf War.
I took this picture at the end of the tour but inserted it here, taking creative liberties with the blog's narrative. As I recall, I got up on something, reaching over the railing to minimize the visual interference from the fence. A worthwhile effort, just to get a clean composition.
Clearly massive. Without any reference -- like people in the frame -- it's hard to understand its absolute scale.
