Gare de Lyon - Paris, France
We took the metro from the Louvre back to the hotel, and the closest station was at Gare de Lyon, the giant train station with long-distance trains to other European cities. It's one of six large stations in Paris. I mentioned at the start of the series that our hotel was conveniently located close by.
The impressive clock tower dominates the architecture. The station is to the left, as you can see from the matching architecture. The modern building on the right is an adjacent hotel which detracts rather than compliments.
I snapped this picture as I walked out of the station, a marvel of ornate architecture. However, after the day of sightseeing at the Louvre and Sainte-Chapelle -- with a new-normal set -- the architecture began to recede. In most cities, a building like this would be a treasure. In Paris, it's one of many grand structures.
