Hi folks, I just transferred your subscription to Small Pond Science (via email or wordpress) over to my new newsletter hosted on substack. Instead of writing on Small Pond Science, I’ll be writing here instead. My newsletter is called Science For Everyone because it encapsulates this axiom: Everyone needs science, and science needs everyone. This newsletter is about practical challenges that we face as human beings doing science. Recurring themes will involve running a lab, the academic job market, publishing, getting funded, mentoring, equity and justice, collaboration, teaching, and so on. My plan is to write for this site just as I wrote for Small Pond, though I will be keeping on a more regular schedule. As a free subscriber, you get to see absolutely everything on the site just like you did with Small Pond Science. Every post will go out to you here and be available on the site without a paywall. I ran Small Pond Science for free and without ads for over decade because I could, and I’m bringing that philosophy to Science for Everyone. A bunch of folks have asked me over the years if there was a way subscribe. I’ve finally set that up with this new site. If you are positioned to be able to value my public writing with a financial contribution, then by all means feel free. The more paid subscriptions I bring in, the more focused on writing I’ll be, so in that sense it will make a real difference. (The only additional treat for those with a paid subscription is the capacity to add comments to posts. Considering the relatively low commenting activity on Small Pond Science, I don’t necessarily think that commenting is in high demand, however I did want to provide a way for more invested folks to be able to interact with one another and ensure that the full content of the site remains available to the public.) You will start receiving updates right here in your inbox. You can also log in to the website to read the full archives and other posts as they are published. After writing so much for Small Pond Science, I’m excited for this new chapter. cheers, Terry McGlynn Some housekeeping from substack… If you can’t find the newsletter, check your spam folder.
