Masterful Brick Apartments - Paris, France
When talking about the La Promenade Plantée, Paris' linear elevated park, I mentioned the lovely surrounding neighborhood yesterday. And here's an example -- tree-lined with beautiful brick apartments with the perfect scale and texture.
Brick is a primary building material. However, these apartments have been masterfully raised to an art form. Just a few elements like the color banding, stone lintels above the windows, and the decorative tops elevate -- these aren't the brick tenements of New York City. Though even the low-cost tenements of yore are more attractively designed than today's versions.
Here's another example: the backside of the apartment facing away from the street -- this is no back alleyway. Notice the use of curved bricks in the corner of the center building. Does the orange-ish top-level look like a house -- penthouse, perhaps?
