Another image captured in pursuit of frogs for Frog Friday. I keep saying that I am not a bird photographer and then posting birds.
I am not really but if one offers itself up for a photograph then why not? I was pretty impressed that I even saw this diving duck as she was hunkered down in some dim light across the swamp and is actually just a small part of a larger scene enhanced in Lightroom to increase the file size and then massively cropped. I wasn't even sure I was photographing a bird until reviewing on the back of the camera at 10x.
The Genus name refers to the Greek "Lophos"=crest and "dutes"=diver. When making a successful dive this species dines on fish. She just sat there until I got tired of staring so possibly had already breakfasted on bullfrog.
