Teaser Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by Ambrosia at The Purple Booker. Here are the rules if you want to play along:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) "teaser" sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn't give too much away! You don't want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

This week's teaser is from Allusion by Andi Hyldahl.

A dusty, maroon pickup approaches. My pulse surges. The timing is dead on. I duck under the foliage and heft up my dad's ancient binoculars, zooming in on two large hands gripping ten and two.

This is the very beginning of this book, so I'm not sure what to make of it yet. We'll have to wait and see what she's looking or waiting for.

Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. This week's topic:

The First 10 Books I Randomly Grabbed from My Shelf

This one was a lot of fun! Basically, you just go up to your bookshelf at random and see where you land. I have several shelves, so I just closed my eyes and went for it (may have banged my elbow, but we won't talk about that). Anyway, here is my ten random books and my thoughts on them.

  1. A Storm of Swords by George R.R. Martin - This is the third book in the Song of Ice and Fire series (or as some call it, the Game of Thrones series). It's been a while since I've read these, since they are so massive, but I love all of them.
  2. The Night Parade by Kathryn Tanquay - I'll be honest, this one I haven't read yet except for the first few chapters. It was going to be a book that I read with my daughter for her homeschool English class, but we ended up going a different way.
  3. Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater - The first book in the Wolves of Mercy Falls trilogy. It's been a while since I read them, but I remember really enjoying them.
  4. Domes of Fire by David Eddings - Eddings was my very first fantasy author that I absolutely fell in love with. This is the first book of the Tamuli trilogy and, if you love classic fantasy, you will probably love his books as well.
  5. Taliesin by Stephen R. Lawhead - This is the first book in the Pendragon Cycle and, as you can probably guess from the title, is a retelling of Arthurian legends. What's cool about this version is it also ties in the myth of the lost city of Atlantis with the story of King Arthur.
  6. Sea of Tranquility by Emily St. John Mandel - I haven't read this one yet, but after reading Station Eleven and The Glass Hotel, it's definitely moved up on my TBR list.
  7. The Stardust Thief by Chelsea Abdullah - Love, love, love this book! Probably one of the best books I read last year.
  8. Maus by Art Spiegelman - This is one I really need to reread again. It's so funny that my first introduction to graphic novels happened as an assignment in college. This one is just brilliant. Hits you in all the feels.
  9. The Thing About Jellyfish by Ali Benjamin - Read this one a few years ago and it was an absolutely beautiful story. Definitely check it out if you haven't yet.
  10. Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr - Another book on my shelf that I haven't read yet. Maybe I will finally do it this year.

Please leave your teasers and top tens in comments!
