I am Rahab. This is my story.
I am not an Israelite. I am a Canaanite woman living in Jericho. Do you want to know why a prostitute became a biblical heroine? Read my story in Joshua chapter 2.
Was I a believer in God before the Israelites entered our land? No. But I heard of the signs and wonders the God of the Israelites performed before them, on how their God destroyed those nations and defended His people from their enemies.
Like any other nation, I knew their God would also destroy us and I was so afraid by that thought. I started to revere their God and would want to be on the side of the Israelites so that my household would be spared.
When I let two Israelite men enter my house, I protected them although they were spies because I knew I was doing the right thing for them. I hid them and let them escape.
It seemed I betrayed my own people, but I had no choice. I could not fight against their God. He was too strong and powerful. That's why we were all afraid of the Israelites because of their God, because their God is their defender. No one can defeat them.
This is my faith story. I put my faith into action. It didn't matter whether I was a prostitute because God honored my faith in Him by what I did for His people.
To God be the glory!
