In this blog, some more japanese sentences that cover japanese restaurant dining etiquettes. The first part is https://diariesofneel.wordpress.com/2023/01/30/japanese-restaurant-etiquettes-part-1/ . So Let continue from Part 1

If you need to get waiter's attention in restaurant, you can say "Sumimasen" which means Excuse Me.

You can ask the waiter for an english menu, or ask for recommendations or get something specific pointing to an item in menu in following ways

  • Eigo no menyuu wa arimasu ka ? - Is english menu there ?
  • Bejitarian menyuu wa arimasu ka ? - Is veg menu there?
  • Nani ga osusume desu ka ? - What do you recommend
  • Nothing - Arimasen
  • This please - Kore kudasai (OR) This one and This one please - Kore, to kore, onegaishimasu
  • Can I have one of Ramen Please - Ramen wo , hitotsu, onegai shimasu.
    • Food counters are as follows
    • One - Hitotsu
    • Two - Futatsu
    • Three - Mitsu
    • Four - Yottsu
    • Five - Itsutsu

Once the waiter receives order, he/she would ask you to wait.

"hai, shoushou omachi kudasai" – Okay, please wait a little bit

When the food is served on the table and you and your companion is ready to eat. Before starting to eat, It is customary in japan to say

Itadakimasu - I am going to eat the food now

If you find food delicious, you can say -

Oishii - Delicious

If you want more food, then you say

Okawari Kudasai - More please

If you don't want more, you can say

Kekko desu - no more please

When you are full, you can say

Onaka Ippai - I am full.

Finally, you can say to the one who is paying your bill or waiter who brings your food or chef who cooked your food.

Gochisosama Deshita - Thankyou for the wonderful meal
