The new year started off with a bang for me, so it's taken me a few days to get around to this, but finally (yes, finally) I am doing my yearly recap!

2022 was a fairly chill year for me reading-wise. I only set two challenges for myself: the ever-popular GoodReads challenge and my annual "Complete the Series" challenge. I always do the GoodReads bit since it feeds into everything else that I do, and my list of series to complete is so long, it's getting a bit ridiculous. Let's see how things went . . .

My GoodReads goal this year was to read 60 books. I've had years where I've read more than that, but I've also been struggling over the past few. I thought 60 would be a challenge that would still be doable. And doable it was, because I read 65 books! Here are the books in question:

  1. Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare
  2. Changeling by Yasmine Galenorn
  3. The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson
  4. Darkling by Yasmine Galenorn

Some of these books were on the shorter side, but that's fine. It still kept me reading and that's what's important to me. 🙂

Reading colors your life

I started working on this challenge years ago when I realized that I had started a bunch of series, usually reading only the first book or two, but never finishing them. Sometimes this was because future books hadn't been published yet and I never went back to the series after they came out. Other times, it was just because something shiny distracted me and I simply forgot.

I also kept going back through my GoodReads and finding more and more series where this happened. I really need to stop doing that.

As of the beginning of 2022, I had a list of 44 series that I had started but never finished. My goal was to complete six of them, while also finishing any new series that I start (no sense in making the problem even worse). I had set similar goals in the past and always fallen short, but I felt good this time around. For good reason, as I actually did it this year!

Here are the six series I finished:

  1. Fire and Thorns series by Rae Carson (4 books) – FINISHED 1/31/22
  2. The Seven Realms series by Cinda Williams Chima (4 books) – FINISHED 8/30/22
  3. Dark Artifices series by Cassandra Clare (3 books) – FINISHED 10/15/22
  4. Otherworld series by Yasmine Galenorn (21 books) – FINISHED 12/26/22
  5. The Carls by Hank Green (2 books) – FINISHED 12/30/22
  6. Miss Peregrine's series by Ransom Riggs (6 books) – FINISHED 6/19/22

I may have been able to do more if it hadn't been for the Otherworld series. It's so long and was definitely a time commitment. I am so glad I was able to finish it! If you want to see the other series that are on my list, you can check out my book challenges tab on the main page of my blog. It will be updated once I post my 2023 challenges, which should be tomorrow.

Anyway, that was my 2022 reading year. I'm really proud of my progress and looking forward to seeing what 2023 will bring!
