I'm still following the prompts from Allegory Gallery Bead in the New Year. I'm actually doing some catching up this weekend since I skipped a few days when I had a busy and tiring week, so it's been fun to be creative. Let's get right to it.
Day #23 - Repurpose one or more non-jewelry materials in a piece
You might not even be able to tell what the non-jewelry component is here. It's the black, blue and pink pendant. That is a fishing fly! My sister's girlfriend gave it to me, thinking it would be good for jewelry. She's right! I've bought others since when I was hanging around some sports store for some reason, but this is by far the best. The colors are glorious, and it has glitter. What could be better? I added blue vintage glass beads, a fancy Czech glass bead with a spot of bright pink, pink waxed linen and vintage blue chain. The dark blue and pink beads were part of the spinner fly, and I went ahead and used those too.
Day #24 - Use a Green Girl Studios piece in your design
This was easy. I love Green Girl Studios and have a very nice stash. It was fun to go through some of the stash. When I found this "Pure Love" pendant (what it says on the back) it resonated with me. It has a deer with a fawn in a wood. It gives me a warm fuzzy when I look at it. I used pearls, pink opal, and garnet from Allegory Gallery. I used beautiful faceted apatite from my stash. Now I'm extra in love with apatite.
Day #25 - Design with pearls
The pearls are from the Allegory Gallery Design Challenge Mix I've used in several other pieces. I find the fish charms so amusing.
Day #26 - Create a monochromatic design
I settled on a grey, white, and black color scheme. I wasn't sure that would be considered monochromatic because I don't know much about color theory, so I looked it up. I checked in my black and white bead boxes and found these lovely center drilled sticks. I love this shape. Maybe they are peanut beads but a little less peanut-y. I got the white ones from Andrew Thornton's destash back in the day. I believe they are vintage. I think the pendant may be something Kimberly Rogers got in Tucson, but I can't say for sure.
I'm going to have to delay Day #27 - work with resin. I only do resin with my mom, and I leave the supplies at her house. I have an idea in mind, but have to get the materials together. I'll share it when I get it done.
Day #28 - Share the work of someone you admire
There are so many people I could cite here, but since I've just gotten this pendant from Kimberly Rogers, I'll share this. Kimberly sells her lampwork (which I love) mostly on her business group NuminosityBeads, as well as some polymer clay and enamel. Her jewelry work is also beautiful. I fell in love with this whole line she did of gemstones with vintage metal pieces. I also have a number of wonderful soldered pendants she made. I really love all of her makes, whatever the medium. In my living room, I even have a lovely analog college piece she made.
I'm going to stop here. I'll round up most the rest of the month in my next post.
