Marriage is not just a good social and economic arrangement. God designed it to be a reflection of the relationship between Christ and His church. If Christ is the groom and His church is the bride, are we aware of any time He has neglected her, abandoned her, or abused her? On the contrary, Christ gave His life for her in order to sanctify her, that is, to make sure she is ready for His soon return.
Abusing one's spouse is a denial of our faith. We may act like Christians on the outside, but God, who sees what happens behind closed doors, is not happy to see any of His children being abused. The apostle Paul made it clear, "A husband must love his wife and not abuse her." Colossians 3:19 (CEV)
Of course, abuse happens in many different relationships in and outside of the home. We should respect, care, and value each other because we were all created by the same God, who shed His blood for all of us.
