(This book is bibliographically complicated. The first volume, edited by John D. M. Robertson, was published in Edinburgh by the Scottish Academic Press, 1991; the second volume, edited by Robertson, James M. Irvine and Marie E. Sutherland, was published more than two decades later in Kirkwall by the Orcadian, 2012.)

In the second volume, there is a chapter entitled "Some Orkney Writers – Edwin Muir, Eric Linklater and George Mackay Brown" (pp. 219–44) [adapted from a previously unpublished lecture by Marwick in the Orkney Library archives, D31/15/4). "George Mackay Brown is at the moment, more than anyone else, the interpreter of Orkney to the outside world" (p. 238).
