I noticed this little fly from afar as I was visiting the larger of two Boneset plants in our small woods. It was so small and skinny I wasn't sure from that distance what it might be but upon a closer look I recognized that it was a hoverfly I hadn't seen this year. Whoopee!

I made several shots as it moved from small flower to flower hoping for a more definitive view. When it started to reach across the void I got it.

Common Oblique Syrphid-Allograpta obliqua. It's nice to have new species and speaks well for the yard. Since my neighbor has stopped with the chemical treatments and the use of his zapper the numbers have been rebounding. Still low compared to years ago but that appears to be true all over.
