Hey future Hoyas!
My name is Brian. I am from a suburb just outside of Portland, Oregon and I am a sophomore in the College majoring in Government! One reason why I chose Georgetown was for its location in our lovely nation's capital. I figured DC would be a cool city to live in and it would be the ideal place to be for internships and jobs after graduation. However, in my freshman year, I quickly learned that the benefits of going to Georgetown were far more palpable.
I remember in September of my freshman year, I was in my dorm room hanging out with a few friends when someone came into my room and said, "Andrew Yang is at Yates right now!" (Yates is our student rec center by the way). So we all left my room and went to Yates as fast as we could. When we got inside, there he was, Andrew Yang, just hanging out on our basketball courts. There were so many people waiting to get a picture with him. After spending all my time in line trying to think of something clever to say, when I got to the front and he said, "hi, I'm Andrew," I just shook his hand and said, "I'm Brian. It's nice to meet you." Although I was disappointed with my generic response, it is still one of my favorite Georgetown memories and one of my favorite stories to tell.
Also, I had the privilege of watching one of my friends challenge Andrew to a quick one-on-one basketball game after I had gotten my picture. Andrew drove past him and hit a little running floater to win the game. So now, I can say that I witnessed Andrew Yang dropping buckets on one of my friends at Yates which is something that not a lot of people can say!
All that being said, there really is no place quite like Georgetown; you won't find Andrew Yang hanging out at your rec center on a Wednesday night at any other school. So, I really hope you decide to join our amazing community. We cannot wait to welcome you!
