Late October does have some creatures roaming around. The most exciting are the White Tailed Bucks. I've only seen one of these ... not a very big one and a poor photograph. Others have seen some really big ones with impressive antlers. There still are numbers of Mallards around and a few Wood Ducks. Strangely there are almost not geese. The Great Blue Heron ... probably the same one ... is still at the South end of the lake most days although does go to the stream below the dam periodically.

Mallard going airborne.
The Mallards apparently get a lot of food out of duck weed. Perhaps not a surprise. What has been interesting is that when they swim into or out of the duck weed they line up. I suppose the stronger one (or the short straw) get to break the way.
A Mallard stretching its wings.
The only different water fowl on the lake right now are three Coots. Two hang around with the Mallards and this one roams.
A Grey Squirrel tearing apart the husk of a black walnut.
.A flock of Turkeys

There were these and probable another 5 or so in the brush beside the path. As I walked slowly up the path, they split and wondered into the brush. It was all very leisurely. As a group they made noises sort of like the middle of a hen's cluck and a baby chicken's peep. It was a neat sound.

At one point they did go on alert. I'm not sure what was bothering them. Eventually they settled down and continued wondering away.
A Red Tailed Hawk circled for the awhile above the golden trees and then disappeared.
The Great Blue Heron started out on a log near the duck blind. Then with a squawk it flew down the lake. I've watched lots of blue heron and this is the only one that regularly makes noise.
Seek just calls this one of the many narrow waisted wasps. It was the only large bug I've seen lately.

I did look again for life in the duck weed and found none this morning. It has been below freezing on the lake so maybe that did in all the little creatures I previously found.

There are several really big puff balls near the lake but not near the trail. This one was about one foot across.

There have been several birds around. This morning, besides for the heron and the Mallards, there were a couple of Nut Hatches, two Tit Mouses, a Downey Woodpecker plus Chickadees, a Robin, and some Gold Finches.

With recent rains the water fall is doing well.
