Stripes galore...a Pallas's Warbler!
Delight to see on the May
brightening up a dull day on the May

Monday 1st November comments: What a better way to welcome the month of November… with a seven-striped sprite!

It's been a bit of change on the island as the clocks have gone back which has brought the darker nights whilst the weather has deteriorated and it has an end of season feel (it is the end of the season after all!) So what better way to raise spirits than with the arrival of a Pallas's Warbler. These stripy migrants are rare birds to the U.K. and are one of the best to see at this time of year, just full of energy, brightness and stripes! They certainly improve a dull autumn day on an island.

The bird arrived on the back of our first Yellow-browed Warbler, but also our second Radde's Warbler of the autumn yesterday. It's been a brilliant few days on the island and just goes to show that autumn migration goes on into early November. This represents the first island record since 2019 but before that it was last seen in 2001! So a very welcome addition to the islands year list.
