To own the biography of one of the most esteemed Indians cultural figures of our time is nothing short of a miracle. Even as I type away this rant-et-review, I just cannot help wonder the sheer wealth this book promises its readers. No doubt about the fact that this book deserves a special place on your bookshelf if you love to read about the lives of others.
This Life at Play has been translated from the original Kannada text, the initials parts done by Girish Karnad himself, and the rest by Srinath Perur. This book traces the first half of Karnad's life, encompassing his chilhood at Sirsi, his early exposure to the art of theatre, his educations all the way from Dharwad-Bombay-Oxford, and a multifaceted career as well - publishing, the film industry, the theatre, and his stint as a writer.
With his signature humour and wit, accompanied by his brilliance as a storyteller, Karnad's biography does not merely narrate his life story but also manifests it; as if his persona breathes through the words printed on pages after pages.
I am glad to have got this opportunity from @harpercollinsin to review this gem of a read.
