To ensure that the food sector in the Halal Industry have standardized knowledge and skills, the Department of Science and Technology Region XI (DOST XI) conducted the second batch of virtual training on Halal for the Food Industry recently.
DOST XI regional director and DOST Halal S&T program leader, Dr. Anthony C. Sales said as part of our commitment in providing scientific and technical knowledge to support the development of the Halal industry, we want to continue in conducting training and development activities.
"This is a good opportunity to share knowledge, implement, and promote quality and integrity in the Halal food industry", he said in his brief message.
About 136 participants from different Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), government offices, and academe institutions learned about Halal Concepts and Principles, Halal Assurance System, and the Halal Management System through the discussions provided by DOST XI Halal S&T Program's Science Research Specialists, Ms. Christine Esther Flor L. Catoera, Ms. Maria Angelique Anne G. Alapag, and Ms. Marielle Aimee A. Malinao during the training.
Discussions were given emphasis on Halal principles and industry requirements for Halal food products, Halal Assurance System (HAS), Halal Assurance Planning (Halal Critical/ Control Point and Process Verification), Halal Policy, Internal Halal Committee (IHC), HAS Manual Procedure (HAS Manual Content), Internal Halal Auditing, and Slaughtering and Stunning. Also discussed were on good manufacturing practices in halal food manufacturing and food production, halal control team and its roles, responsibilities and all related activities, and requirements of the Philippine Halal Certification in producing halal and thoyyib food products.
