Lifeform: Perrenial; hemicryptophyte according to the Raunkiær system.

Distribution: Native to Subarctic and Temperate Northern Hemisphere (Eurasia, North America to Central America to Guatemala. according to the distribution information provided by The Euro+Med PlantBase (source: Greuter, 2006+).

Habitat:  Mixed oak forests (Querco-carpinetum macedonicum assosiation).

Flowering period: End of spring – beginning of summer summer; (MAY-) JUN.
