Being one of the first conflicts in which the military used modern technologies consisting of railways, telegraphs and explosive naval shells, The Crimean War was one of the first to be documented in photographs and written reports extensively.
The war, as the known legend, Charge of the Light Brigade, affirmed, became the symbol of tactical, medical, mismanagement and logistical failures, and the reaction commanded a demand for professionalism, achieved famously by Florence Nightingale.
She gained worldwide attention and recognition for pioneering modern nursing while she treated the wounded.
