Although some bees might consider this a monster of Grendel proportions, it is not quite as hideous.  Beewolf larvae eat bee larvae but the adults just sup on nectar which is most likely why we are witnessing in this shot.

Hump-backed Beewolf-Philanthus gibbosus on a Daisy Fleabane-Erigeron annus. This was my first sighting of this wasp and I just got the one lucky shot before it flew off.
