It's been a lovely beautiful week as we near the end of May.
The weather has been on our side with blue skies and bright sun!
The children continued their understanding and exploration of birds this week. To help the children understand how the bodies of birds are constructed we created small birds of our own. With the use of a paper bird template, glue, feathers, goggly eyes, small triangle papers for legs and beaks the children created their beautiful birds:
Monday was all about trying our best to move slowly through the woods so we could listen to the birds as we headed toward the pond. We did our best to listen to many different birds, we together heard at least 7 different birds as we walked. As we arrived to the pond we realized how beautiful the water was but to our surprise we didn't see any of our bird friends swimming on the water, but we could observe the swallows flying low to catch the insects just above the water.
We used our gross motor skills to climb and explore around the rocks near the water. Took moments to look closely into the water to see if there was anything to find. Finished our time at the water throwing rocks to create sounds and of course create splashes of all sizes.
We took a moment at the lake to enjoy the beautiful view sitting on a rock. It was very nice to see the children share a small space together, make room for friends to sit together. Just a group of good friends enjoying a peaceful moment at the lake.
Before venturing to the woods Tuesday we stopped to taste our beautiful orange flowers that are safe and edible for tasting! Many of children enjoyed the taste and expressed they tasted "spicy".
The venture in the forest lead us to the stream. To our surprise it hasn't dried up and the stream was still cold and running through the forest. We took time to explore the water being careful as we didn't have our boots that day. Some of the children moved rocks from the stream. Some floated sticks in the current . Some searched for small bugs under rocks near the stream. We always have our best time near the water.
sometimes a rock can be a house.
On the way back from the stream Ms. Evelyne was at the end of the group with 2 students when they encountered an unusual friend on the trail. That was the kind of friend that you just let pass by without disturbing and quietly leave the scene thankful to have not stepped on it!
We let you discover who it was with the pic below. We are not 100% sure about identification. If you know please comment!
We had a great time on our back playground and continued our bird activity outside and made music instruments with paper plates and bird seeds. We also enjoyed making bubbles.
On Friday the weather was a bit colder but we stayed outside and had a lot of fun building a sand mountain that eneded up as an eruptive volcano!
We really enjoyed the warm weather this week and cannot wait for more next week.
We wish you a great long weekend and will see you soon for more adventures and observations in our woodlands!
